In 2001 I began a journey with Himanchal Education Foundation first as a volunteer, then as a member of the board of directors. Over the years I have traveled to Nepal for HEF five times and met hundreds of like-minded people both Nepali and from dozens of other countries. Below are a few of the foundations and companies who are helping tell this story through their support of HEF and Mahabir Pun.

Himanchal Education Foundation (HEF) www.himanchal.org A non-profit organization developed to support Himanchal High School in the remote village of Nangi, Nepal. The school is a prototype for community-based educational development in rural areas.

Nepal Wireless http://www.nepalwireless.net Nepal Wireless Networking Project was informally started in 2001 by Mahabir and a team of international volunteers to connect Nangi village and a few neighboring villages to the Internet for communication purpose only. Now it is officially run by E-Networking Research and Development for introducing ICT services in all rural areas of Nepal.

MilleZola http://www.millezola.com/index.html MilleZola’s mission is to improve the health and standards of living in remote communities of Nepal by empowering community groups (especially women’s groups) to be the agents of community development for their villages. They produce traditional hand woven bags and items which are sold in the villages of Nangi and Tikot and also in France.

Nepal Community Trek http://nepaltrek.wix.com/nepalcommunitytrek Annapurna Dhaulagiri Community Trek project was established in 2010 with the financial support of UNDP/MEDEP http://www.medep.org.np and village contributions. This is an unique trekking route in Nepal due to its objective – to develop the community of Parbat and Myagdi Districts in order to support the education system of community based schools in the villages.
